Biblical plague: Cannibal insects attacked the States
Oklahomaans watch the cricket mating season in horror. Terrible noise around the clock, and the stench of already dead insects. They are everywhere, it is impossible to walk on the streets.
People tightly close windows and doors, but crickets manage to get into a person’s dwelling. We have never seen anything like this, the old-timers assure. Authorities urge you to be patient and never kill insects, because crickets are prone to cannibalism, the more you kill them, the more they become.

The crickets, whose mating season has begun, cause a lot of problems for the townspeople. Not only do they exude a rather specific smell and make nasty sounds, they also engage in cannibalism. According to residents, the insects gather together and eat the corpses of their dead brothers, occupying almost every street, sidewalk and building. Many people are afraid to leave the house.

According to experts, the reason for the unusually large number of insects may be the weather.
“Such cases are observed after a long spring drought, and subsequent precipitation in July and August,” says Rick Grantham, director of the diagnostic laboratory specializing in plant and insect diseases at the University of Oklahoma.

“Crickets usually spend their daytime in dark, damp environments. If you remove bricks, stones or other debris lying in the yard of the house, there will be significantly less of them, ”says Grantham.

A sure remedy is also offered - aerosols, which are recommended to spray window and doorways to protect against intrusion. Many city dwellers have not slept for several days, and scientists say that this can last up to eight weeks.

In addition to the incessant chirping that can last until early morning, some residents say the crickets give off a foul odor. “After a while, they will all start to die, and the city will be filled with the smell of rotten meat,” said one of the residents of Oklahoma City.
