Because of the hail, the Mexican city turned into a glacier
Mexico is a country where ice can only be seen in a cocktail glass, and snow is on the walls of the freezer. Imagine the surprise of the residents of the city of Guadalajara when they were literally flooded with ice. Hail, which took place in the capital of Jalisco and six of its suburbs, covered the streets with a 1.5-meter layer of ice and snow.
Sultry Guadalajara has never seen such a natural cataclysm. The hail was so strong that it damaged more than 200 houses and many cars. To clean the streets from the effects of bad weather, the authorities had to use special equipment, which turned out to be quite a bit in a city that did not know snowfalls.
In Guadalajara, where more than five million inhabitants live, the bad weather broke many trees, and the streets located in the lowlands were also flooded with water. Fortunately, there is no information about human casualties. The storm, accompanied by catastrophic precipitation, broke out at 1.50 local time, when the townspeople were sleeping and there was almost no one on the streets.
Hail has been in this area before, but ice has never been left lying in a thick layer on sidewalks, roads and roofs of buildings. Scientists believe that an unusual natural phenomenon for the region is associated with the abnormal prolonged heat characteristic of this summer.
Heavy rains at air temperatures up to 32 ° C caused massive evaporation of water, which cooled below zero at altitude and fell with unusual precipitation.
The governor of the state of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro, called the hail in Guadalajara an incredible phenomenon and commented on this disaster:
Confirmation of his words can be called a hail that took place a couple of years ago in the Spanish area of Aragon. Spaniards were also surprised by the amount of precipitation that suddenly hit Zaragoza, which was hot in September.
