Arbat late 80s
Arbat, an old street with a long history, received a second life in the mid-80s, when it was completely reconstructed and made pedestrian. The development and implementation of the project took several years, and finally, in 1986, the Arbat appeared in a new guise: instead of asphalt, a cobbled surface, flowerpots with flowers and a number of benches for relaxation in the middle of the street, retro-style lanterns ... Moscow wits immediately issued: “Arbat ofonarel ".
At the same time, when the old street received a new pedestrian status, perestroika began to seethe in the country. And the Arbat became the center of a new democratic culture: open-air concerts were held right here, street actors performed, poets read poetry, artists exhibited their paintings and painted portraits of passers-by, amateur singers and professional musicians lined up a few meters from each other. Many now popular artists have become stars, starting with their first performances on the Arbat.
And since the end of the 80s, when the time of "wild capitalism" began, the Arbat became the street of a new category, hitherto unknown in the country - businessmen. And with them new professions appeared: broker, broker, trader, raider, dealer, killer... Everything that was brought from abroad and produced in the country was sold here...
