Anastasia Gorshkova is the most authoritative woman in the Russian comics industry
Many people believe that only men create comics. Well, this is not a woman’s business, stories about superheroes, gangsters and zombie apocalypses. But there are ladies in the comics industry. Moreover, they achieve impressive success in this area, such as Russian Anastasia Gorshkova.
Today Anastasia is the most popular comic book artist in Russia. She earned her authority through an Instagram account that she calls a “visual diary.” Gorshkova’s work is followed by 210 thousand subscribers. The girl doesn't just draw funny stories for fun. Comics on social networks are her job.
Anastasia managed to work with Erborian, Tinkoff, Golden Apple and other famous brands. The artist is incredibly lucky, because her hobby has become a profession. It brings not only pleasure, but also good income. It’s worth saying right away that Gorshkova didn’t find herself right away. She managed to work as a waitress, a nurse in a clinic, a fireworks seller, an animator and a consultant in an online store.
It was at her last place of work that Anastasia began to draw. The girl published her works on Instagram and did not even take them seriously. But just six months later, she got her first client, and immediately a reputable one - Sberbank. And then orders began to arrive one after another and the artist soon left her unloved job.
Anastasia was fond of drawing from early childhood. At school she was allowed to come to the computer lab to play after school. But she used this divine right, from the point of view of her peers, completely wastefully. Gorshkova got stuck into simple graphic editors, experimenting with lines and colors. There was also an art school in her life. True, Anastasia admits that she studied fine arts poorly, with a C grade.
While still an artist, Anastasia realized that she was not made for academic drawing. She was attracted by surreal images, bright, even acidic colors and unusual technical techniques. After school, the future artist chose to enter the Polytechnic Institute. After receiving an engineering degree, she even worked a little at a glass factory. But soon she got bored and began to change one profession after another.
So, in the bustle and experiments, a place in life was found that completely suits Anastasia. When asked by a Vogue journalist about why comics, the artist answers simply. She was never sure that her skill and talent would be able to convey the exact idea to the viewer. And what can save, in this case, if not an inscription? And the drawing with the inscription is already a comic book. Is not it?
Another Russian woman who draws popular online comics is Alexandra Vlasova. Her works are mainly devoted to the everyday life of a young mother.
