An ominous refuge in the Primorsky Territory, which is waiting in the wings — nuclear war

In Primorsky Krai, on the shore of Pavlovsky Bay, there are ready-made scenery for a film about the post-apocalypse. This sinister labyrinth of huge tunnels dug into the coastal rock was supposed to be a shelter for submarines of the Pacific Fleet in the event of a nuclear war. However, when the work was almost completed, the construction was stopped.

The Pavlovskoye shelter is located on the territory of the operating base of nuclear submarines and is guarded by armed patrols. But adventurers are not deterred by this. A group of Vladivostok adventurers, who are engaged in exploring abandoned places in the Far East, managed to get into the tunnels. The guys took a series of colorful photos.

According to unconfirmed information, the construction of the shelter began in the 60s and was carried out at a very rapid pace under the control of top officials of the Ministry of Defense until the end of the 80s. The sudden stop of work was probably caused by the fact that the Union was preparing to conclude a strategic arms reduction treaty with the United States. It was signed in July 1991.

The facility has been in a mothballed state for more than a quarter of a century, but it can be assumed that it will be promptly brought into proper shape if, God forbid, the danger of nuclear war looms over the world again.

The central part of the underground harbor consists of two parallel, interconnected tunnels. One of them is a water channel 19 meters wide and 450 meters long. The other is almost twice as short. At least three missile cruisers could fit in these tunnels.

It is not possible to estimate the total area of this colossal structure, since some passages are flooded. But it is definitely not less than four thousand square meters.
