About Face: photo portraits of people suffering from paralysis
American Sage Sohier has been involved in photography for 30 years - since she received her bachelor's degree from Harvard. She spent three years at a clinic in Boston photographing people suffering from various degrees of facial paralysis. The result was the photo project About Face.
1. The causes of violations are different: traffic accidents, accidents, strokes and other disorders.
2. “My goal was to create psychologically powerful and visually intriguing photographic portraits,” says Sage Sawyer of the project.
3. As a rule, paralysis affects only one part of the face. “These are two versions of the same person at once. It fascinated me in its terrible beauty, ”she says.
4. “Most of the people I have photographed are clearly aware of their condition. I was amazed at how complex feelings are reflected in their faces. These portraits testify to the incredible courage required to fight the disease,” says Sage Sawyer.
