All her life, until her death in 1988, the woman received postcards that came from different countries every year. She never found out who her secret admirer was.

The postcards came from different parts of the world: Hong Kong, Tunisia, Australia, Hawaii, Haiti. Such a variety of places prompted the woman to think that the fan might have been one of her classmates who became a sailor.
Meryl could only guess who exactly had sent her these postcards, which had accumulated a whole box over the years. The signature on the valentines ranged from a question mark to the phrases "You know who" or "Yes, it's me again."
