A toy boat from Scotland almost sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, but its battery runs out
Coastal vessels in the Atlantic Ocean are warned that if they come across a toy ship, they need to catch it and charge the battery. The boat, bearing the telling name Adventure, was launched into the open sea in May 2017 by two brothers — 8-year-old Ollie and 5-year-old Harry Ferguson from the Scottish town of Terniff. First, the boat sailed to Scandinavia, and now, having crossed the Atlantic Ocean, it plows the waters of Guyana in South America.
The boys' father said that the Adventure device tracking the location showed that the charging level is at around 25 percent and the battery needs to be recharged, otherwise the adventure of the brave boat, which has already overcome so many kilometers, will end ingloriously.
Before launching the North Sea, the toy ship had to be slightly improved. For stability, ballast was added, which was filled with foam so that the boat would not sink. After several tests in the pool, Adventure was launched into the sea.
A note is attached to the boat with a request to anyone who picked it up to let it sail further. McNeill Ferguson, the boys' father, told: "The sensor transmits the location of the boat twice a day, but with such a percentage of charging it just needs to be replaced."
The crew of the ship Stena Carron heard a message about the ship, and they are quite close to it. If they can catch him, they will try to help. The crew promised that they would warn all ships on the way about Adventure.
The Ferguson brothers have their own adventure list with 500 items. And launching a boat into the open sea was one of them. The boys also managed to use a weather balloon to launch lego figures into space 30 kilometers above the Moray Firth Bay, do rock climbing and drink tea from the snow. According to the boys' parents, they wanted to inspire them to exciting adventures, instead of sitting in front of the TV or playing iPad all day.
"Everyone who picked up the boat was very kind and took care of it. And then they sent us photos that everything was fine with him. People really got into this idea."
"Every time we get a message about his whereabouts, the boys are incredibly happy. We sit down at the computer and calculate where he has been, then we put the route on the map, which gives them an idea of how huge our world is."
