A couple from Canada transported their dream home by swimming across the lake on a homemade raft
A couple from Canada took the house with them during the move. The husband and wife wanted to continue living in the old house so much that they moved it across the lake. The building floated on the water 90 km. The couple made a long and careful plan for his relocation, based on facts from Canadian history. The great migration was successful: the house arrived at its destination in one piece. Find out how the family organized an unusual move from our material.
Kirk Lovell (Kirk Lovell) and Daniele Penney (Daniele Penney) from Canada moved a century-old house to a new picturesque place. The couple bought the building from pensioners who were going to demolish it.
The couple says that this house was their dream, but it was impossible to move it overland because of the power lines along the road. Therefore, they decided to ferry him across the lake, as the Canadians once did during the migration in the middle of the last century. In the 1950s, the state tried to reduce remote communities. Families who were forced to leave their native villages were transported by sea and at home to a new place of residence.
For two months, the couple studied how the building could be transported by swimming. They calculated that they would need 28 plastic barrels and foam for this. It took seven days to install the house on a makeshift raft.
On October 11, Kirk and Daniel moved the building to the water's edge and sent the house on a 90 km journey across the lake. They admit that they were very worried, because the house could have sunk, but everything went well.
During the crossing, the Canadians were helped by their neighbors on small boats. They made sure that the building was not too submerged in water. In total, the trip across the lake took five hours.
As a result, the historical building was preserved. The wet walls were dried using a wood stove and industrial hair dryers. The couple are going to make repairs in the house and enjoy life, admiring the picturesque views from its windows.
Kirk and Daniel are not the first to take the house with them during the move. An old two-storey mansion was also moved to the USA. It took 4 years and $400,000.
