Some trees are so large that buildings can be built not from them, but directly in them or on them. And today we will tell you about the five most vivid and vivid examples of wooden architecture, in the creation of which no tree was damaged.

Baobabs are not only the largest trees in the world, but also the oldest. They can live for several thousand years, while reaching a truly huge trunk size, comparable to a private house. There is a similar record-breaking baobab in the South African town of Mojajiskluf in Limpopo province. It is famous throughout the country not only for its age of six thousand years (!), but also for the fact that the Sunland Baobab Pub is located inside this tree. Of course, most of this place is located outdoors in the shade of branches, and inside there is a kitchen and a small hall for just a few visitors.

Conservationists should not grab their hearts when reading these lines. No one had deliberately hollowed out these rooms inside a living baobab. In the trunk of the tree for six thousand years of its existence, two large natural cavities were formed, which are used for their own purposes by the Sunland Baobab Pub. But in the small French village of Alouville-Belfos, in Normandy, inside a giant old oak tree, there is an institution not for sinners. There are two small chapels, one of which originally served as the cell of a hermit monk. (Photo source: yaly.unblog.fr)

Researchers say that this oak itself appeared in the ninth century. And the first mention of it dates back to the seventeenth century, when a local abbot decided to conduct an experiment by placing forty local children inside the natural cavities formed due to the aging of the tree. Later, he ordered the formation of a chapel of the Virgin Mary in one of the huge hollows, and Father Du Cerceau settled in the other as a hermit. (Photo source: sciences-paysages.blogspot.com)

Wooden houses by Patrick Dougherty

American Patrick Dougherty works at the intersection of architecture, sculpture and gardening at the same time. He creates incredible buildings and individual figures from trees and shrubs. And some of them are alive. The construction of the latter takes him many years — after all, specially planted in the right place plants need to grow. (Photo source: treehouseblog.com)

Of course, no one lives in these buildings! But parks and open-air museums, where the objects of the authorship of Patrick Dougherty are located, use them as garden and park architecture-gazebos and pavilions for events.

In Sweden, for several years there has been a hotel Tree Otel-one of the most unusual hotels in the world, where each room is a unique shape of a tree house. And in 2014, a new building opened in this institution — The Bird's Nest ("Bird's Nest").

This small building looks like a giant nest located in the trees. To create this effect, the structure was covered with small branches, the presence of which was deliberately emphasized by the architects from Inrednin Gsgruppen. (Photo source: pinterest.com)

However, inside there is quite a modern, albeit small, room, designed for two guests. And you can get into it by using an applied ladder. Not very comfortable, but atmospheric. (Photo source: nordicdesign.ca)

In the vicinity of the California town of Leget, there is a national park-an area where giant redwoods grow. And one of the attractions of this place is the so-called candelabra tree (Chandelier Tree), growing right in the middle of the road. However, it does not interfere with the passage of cars and the passage of people, because a tunnel was broken inside this plant in the thirties of the 20th century.

The town of Leget and the surrounding settlements were the centers of timber extraction in the first half of the last century. And this tunnel inside the sequoia was created by loggers on the Avenue of the Giants road, named after the huge trees that grow along it. The plant, by the way, is still alive and is covered with new foliage every season. (Photo source: meetup.com)
