14 types of "American beauty"
Photographer from San Francisco Kerry Fruit has implemented a photo project "American Beauty". It involved 14 naked women lying in lilac petals. Thus, the artist seeks to convince the audience that female beauty does not depend on age, physique and skin color.
The photographer was inspired to create this series by the famous poster of the Sam Mendes film "American Beauty", which depicts a nude actress Mina Suvari in rose petals.
With her photo shoot, the artist strives to help women feel beautiful, regardless of how much their appearance differs from stereotypes in popular culture.
1. This is how the original poster for the movie "American Beauty" looked like.
2. In contrast to the flawless cinematic image, the photographer's models were not as perfect as the girl from the movie, personifying American beauty.
3. In addition, rose petals were replaced with lilac, which, according to the photographer, is associated with pride, beauty and self-confidence.
4. This project serves as a protest against the idealization of the female image.
5. Also, with this project, the photographer wanted to show that women's beauty is diverse and goes beyond what people see in films and advertising campaigns.
6. "We all see images and images of flawless beauties in the press and on the Internet every day, but they are not realistic. It's a fantasy. Then we look in the mirror and see someone who doesn't meet these beauty standards. However, I think it's time to change things and return the power of reality, not illusion," says Fruit about his project.
7. Women of various ages and physiques took part in the project. Each model independently chose a pose.
8. "By allowing themselves to be in the role of a dream girl and letting go of their fears, they free themselves from a big mistake — a waste of energy to think that they are not attractive enough," explained Fruit.
