The Royal Tower, larger than the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, is being built in Saudi Arabia and will be the first building on the planet whose height is close to a kilometer. It will house luxury condominiums, office space, an observatory, a Four Seasons hotel and the world's tallest terrace. The construction of the skyscraper officially began last year, construction should be completed in 2019.

The construction of the 121-story Shanghai Tower in China, which began back in 1993, was completed earlier this year, and finishing work is now underway. However, millions of people have already watched the view from above, thanks to the dizzying images taken by two Russian daredevils who illegally climbed to the top last year.

Closest to ground on this list, yet equally mind-blowing, KARSARC in Saudi Arabia looks more like a James Bond villain's lair than a cosmopolitan hub. The futuristic design is the brainchild of iconic architect Zaha Hadid, who took the interlacing of hexagonal cells as a basis.

China has only recently begun construction on a 730-metre center and it still has a long, long way to go. But, if the pointed $4.5 billion project is completed on schedule in 2020, it will be the tallest building in China and the third tallest building in the world.

12. Apparently, this hotel, basking among the rocks and lakes, is next on the list of places to stay in China. Like the Dawang mountain resort, Songjang will be built right on the walls of the quarry, with a waterfall running down its façade. Well, if you can’t enjoy the view from one of the upper floors, go to the lower ones - they will be under water. (© tudointerestante)
