By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/the-faces-of-steve-mccurry1.htmlSteve McCurry has been one of the most iconic personalities in modern photography for more than 30 years. He has dozens of magazine and book covers, more than a dozen published books, and countless exhibitions around the world. The most famous photo of Steve is the one that was published in this post first. She is simply called "Afghan Girl".
This is the "Afghan Girl". Her name is Sharbat Gula, but no one knew her name for a long time. This photo, first published on the cover of the June 1985 issue of National Geographic magazine, has become one of the most recognizable and popular in the history of the magazine. In January 2002, the National Geographic team went to Afghanistan in search of the girl. That year she was already about 30, she clearly remembered how Steve photographed her then, but she first saw this world-famous photo only in 2002.
This is the same Sharbat Gula - the girl from the previous photo. This picture was taken 17 years after the first one, in 2002.
