The bloody story of Magdalena Solis — prostitute, vampire and "goddess of the Aztecs"

You don't need an outstanding intellect or strength to bend people to your will. It is enough to skillfully use superstition and fear. Magdalena Solis was a prostitute and fortune teller, and her two accomplices were petty criminals. But this did not prevent them from organizing a totalitarian sect and pushing around an entire village. Unfortunately, this story is not at all funny, as it may seem. The events that took place around Solis and her friends cost many people their lives.

It all started with the fact that two brothers, Santos and Cayetano Hernandez, in the very early 1960s traveled around the northwest of Mexico and engaged in fraud. These persons were well known to the police, so the crooks could not turn around. They appeared in some town or village, pulled off one or two small scams and immediately disappeared.

The brothers were always short of money, and they dreamed of finding a place where they could "shear sheep" for a long time, productively and safely. And one day, in 1962, they found him. It was a small village of Yerbabuena, where there was no police, no school, not even a church. All its inhabitants, as one, were engaged in growing corn and beans. They took the products to the nearest town, to the market.

It is not surprising that when the peasants saw the Hernandez brothers dressed in specially prepared costumes, and also listened to their speeches, they believed in all the stories. Santos and Cayetano said that they were Aztec priests and had come specifically to relieve the people of Yerbabuen from want. At first, the scammers showed some cheap tricks, charming the dark villagers. They then claimed that the wealth that could change their lives was stored in nearby caves.

The brothers lied with inspiration and rudely. They didn't even care about looking like the Aztecs. However, the peasants didn't care — their minds were busy with treasures. To make it look more convincing, the Hernandezes conducted several fictional rituals and even sacrificed some pets. The locals were delighted. They carried their modest savings to the crooks and waited for new miracles.

But it was not possible to get rich on the meager donations of poor farmers. Therefore, the Hernandez brothers began to demand that local girls be brought to them. Criminals used them for intimate pleasures, and then sold them to city brothels, away from the village. But even this could not be called a good income. And besides, some of the residents of Yerbabuen were disappointed in the "Aztecs" and bad rumors began to spread around the village. It was necessary to do something to impress the illiterate Parishioners once again.

Santos and Cayetano decided that it was necessary to develop a cult and seek fear and respect from the villagers. Therefore, it was decided to find the goddess. The search took place in the nearest major city — Monterrey. There, the brothers quickly got lucky — they met Magdalena Solis. She was a prostitute, and besides that she worked as a fortune teller and clairvoyant. The experience in dealing with otherworldly forces was most welcome!

Magdalena, after hearing the story of the Hernandez brothers, gladly agreed to participate in the scam. She liked the fact that the money would be obtained simply, just by acting. Solis was a woman with a difficult fate. She had been selling herself since childhood, and her pimp was her brother Eleazar Solis. By the way, he also wanted to be a priest and joined the company.

After arriving in the village, the appearance of Solis was beaten as effectively as possible. To do this, they arranged another ritual with sacrifices and burning gifts to the gods. Magdalena in an exotic outfit suddenly appeared out of the clouds of black smoke. The Hernandez brothers announced that she was Coatlicue, the goddess of earth and fire. Impressed by the performance, people willingly believed it and fell to the ground in a fit of religious ecstasy.

Magdalena got into the taste very quickly. She liked the worship of the whole crowd, and the woman enthusiastically began to invent new rituals. Solis demanded that not only animals, but also people be sacrificed. They killed, first of all, those who were suspected of insufficient devotion to the "goddess". The victim's heart was cut out, and her blood was drunk by priests and the most fanatical adepts.

The bloody orgy lasted for several months. Perhaps everything would have gone on rolling on, if not for an accident. In May 1963, a 14-year-old teenager Sebastian Guerrero wandered into the vicinity of the village of Yerbabuena. Rumors spread by the Hernandez brothers led him there. Many people in the area said that countless treasures were hidden in the Sierra Madre Mountains.

Wandering around the mountains near the village in the evening, Sebastian saw a light in one of the caves. He approached and inadvertently witnessed a terrible human sacrifice. The frightened boy rushed to the nearest authorities, in the town of Villagran. There he told about what he had seen at the police station. The guardians of the law made the teenager laugh. It seemed absurd to them that in the middle of the 20th century, human sacrifices were being made somewhere and blood was being drunk.

But the teenager was persistent and came to the police the next day. This time he managed to talk to Police Inspector Luis Martinez. He was also skeptical, but agreed to go with Guerrero to the caves in the Sierra Madre mountains. No one else saw them alive.

When it became clear that Inspector Martinez had mysteriously disappeared, the police sounded the alarm. On May 31, 1963, a large detachment of police, armed to the teeth, arrived in the village of Yerbabuena. The sister and brother of Solis and Santos Hernandez were found in one of the farmhouses. Magdalena and Eleazar was immediately arrested, and Hernandez suddenly decided to flee. After a short chase, the police managed to shoot him, so successfully that the "priest" immediately expired.

The villagers were not going to communicate with the police. They scattered to the surrounding mountains and even fired at the law enforcement officers from a distance with guns. Then a real roundup began, during which the obstinate sectarians were caught. In the caves, about which the teenager spoke, eight bodies were found at different stages of decomposition. Two of them belonged to Guerrera and Martinez.

A little later, Cayetano Hernandez was also found, although already dead. He was killed by one of the locals after seeing a powerful priest of an ancient civilization cowardly running away from the village through the bushes. On that day, the police packed several buses with arrested people. Magdalena Solis, her brother, and half of the villagers were brought to court. The other half of Yerbabuen settled on the benches in the hall as witnesses.

Surprisingly, no one wanted to testify against impostors and murderers. The court was able to prove only the murder of Guerrera and Martinez by the "priests". For this crime Magdalena and Eleazar Solis received 50 years in prison. All the other defendants in the case were convicted of 6 murders and went to jail for 30 years.

It is known that Latin American prisons are completely different from the resorts there. Therefore, it is not surprising that the main defendants in this terrible case did not live to see the end of their term.
