On Friday, September 1, the Guinness Book of Records jury examined the castle and awarded him the victory. The construction was built for three weeks by a team of designers from ten countries, it took 3860 tons of sand.

The project was initiated by the travel company Schauinsland-Reisen. This was the city's second attempt to set a record: in 2016, most of the castle collapsed, and the building was disqualified for using additional materials besides sand and water. This time, too, there was a collapse, but it was not so critical, and the team simply redesigned the design.
Sculptor Lucas Bruggemann explained that this year they used a thousand tons more sand to make the base wider and the sand was better compressed.
Duisburg Castle toppled from the first place a sand sculpture from India, which set a record in February 2017.
This sculpture with a height of 14.84 meters was erected in the city of Puri by the creators of the "Golden Sands Art School" (Sudarsan Sand Art Institute). It took nine days to work.
The team of sculptors from Duisburg does not hope that their work will remain the largest sand sculpture for a long time. It is planned that the castle will remain untouched until September 29.
The locals have been excitedly following the construction of the castle for the last few weeks.
