Search parties, along with specially trained rescue dogs, combed the rubble in search of survivors of these terrible circumstances.
Daiko served in the fire and rescue unit in the city of Ibarra, whose employees were sent to the coastal city of Pedernales, which was severely damaged by the earthquake.
After working without rest for several days, the dog, together with his unit, returned to his hometown, after which, completely devoid of strength, he lost consciousness. Despite the best efforts of veterinarians, he could not be saved. According to El Universo, the dog died of dehydration.
Rescuers paid tribute to their brave colleague.
They saw him off on his last journey with honors and thanked him for his faithful service. They announced this on their Facebook page.
Many dogs selflessly help people during the aftermath of disasters. Let us remember with gratitude their valuable contribution to saving human lives.
