Criminals use all sorts of tricks to transfer drugs and prohibited items to their accomplices in prisons. The use of cats as couriers has long been a classic and the other day in Panama caught another fluffy "attacker".

In a Panamanian prison, a drug courier with paws was caught

A drug courier cat was caught on the territory of the Nueva Esperanza prison in the Panamanian province of Colon. The animal was carrying several bags of cocaine, a roll of marijuana, and some methamphetamine. The illegal cargo was carefully tied to the animal's body so that it did not interfere with its movement.

The Nueva Esperanza Correctional Prison, which houses more than 1,700 inmates, is located north of the capital, Panama City. There are criminals behind bars with solid sentences, including life sentences. The amount of illegal substances that the cat had with him was impressive – they would be enough to arrange a "holiday" for at least a third of the prison's inhabitants.

The prison guards had a lot of trouble while they caught the intruder. And at least that's what – Panamanian law does not provide for punishment for cats detained with drugs. Now the animal is in a shelter for cats and dogs, waiting for new owners. Employees of the service are sure that the cat will be taken into loving hands very quickly, because he has become a real celebrity.

A photo of the animal, hung with bundles of banned substances, was posted on its official Twitter account by the Prosecutor General's Office of Panama. The pictures instantly spread across blogs and news sites, and now the hapless drug courier is known not only in Panama, but all over the world.

This is not the first time that drugs in Nueva Esperanza have been attempted to be transmitted by animals. The last case was recorded a couple of years ago – when the forbidden cargo was carried to the prison by carrier pigeons belonging to one of the prisoners.

Now even cats are arrested for cocaine, and there were times when this drug could only be scolded and issued a fine. Moreover, its ads were placed in the calendars!
