By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/even-mailboxes-in-japan-are-very-strange.htmlUsually mailboxes can hardly be called works of art, but in Japan it's just the opposite. Japanese mailboxes are made bright by decorating with images of mascots, animals and other phenomena of local culture.
The very pop culture of mailboxes, or, as they are called in Japan, kinen post, originates in 1952, when the Japanese postal service decorated the top of the box with a statue of a cherub playing a trumpet, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union.
Since then, kinen posts have spread throughout the country, serving as reminders of anniversaries of events, pointers or simply demonstrating the unique character and history of the area.
