An American developer was fired by mistake by a robot, and none of the bosses could stop him

The American developer and co-founder of Renly, Ibrahim Diallo, told how the machine fired him without the knowledge of his superiors. Gradually, the man lost access to the workplace, until at some point his contract was not terminated at all. The developer told about such a strange dismissal in his blog.

Before his dismissal, Ibrahim managed to work for a large company, the name of which he does not want to disclose, for eight months. According to him, he worked hard and his superiors praised him, until one morning he received a strange letter.

The man decided that he was confused with someone else, as several of his full namesakes worked in the company. However, the surprises didn't end — Diallo couldn't get to work because his pass didn't work. The guard laughed, shrugged, and let him pass.

Diallo called the agent to resolve the situation. The agent said that she had received a letter concerning him and asked again if he was all right. Then the girl promised to sort out the situation and call back, which she never did. Then Diallo turned to his boss, where they said that he had nothing to worry about.

The next day, the developer, as usual, came to work by car, but could not park, since this pass did not work either. He had to leave the car and wait for the guard.

When the pass at the entrance to the building did not work again, Diallo decided that he needed to change the key card, and turned to his boss. He was given a temporary pass, which expired at seven o'clock in the evening.

A couple of hours later, the developer faced another problem — he was denied access to working programs. He worked for several hours and then opened Windows to note in Jira (project management system) that the task was completed. He was immediately thrown out of the system, and with the help of his login and password, he could not log in.

Diallo turned to a colleague to see what had become of his task, and found out that it was inactive and his name was removed from the system. After that, the manager called him in a panic, as she received a letter about his dismissal, although there were no prerequisites.

The bosses did not understand why Diallo's profile in the Jira system was deactivated, and the problem was passed to technical support. A terrible error message was already waiting for him on his work computer, but he was able to bypass the system and worked the rest of the day.

The next day, Ibrahim took a taxi to work so as not to have problems with a parking space. Only now he could not get a temporary pass at the entrance, since he was listed as "fired" in the system. The boss had to go down and personally escort him to his workplace.

The director of the company tried to understand the situation:

When the man was about to leave the office, the director saw a letter saying that the contract with the developer was terminated in March 2017, although it was supposed to be completed only at the end of December.

The next day, Diallo was already blocked in all office systems except Linux. He spent the first half of the day documenting all his work, and in the second half two people appeared at his desk.

One of them was Diallo's acquaintance— it was Jose's security guard, the other was his friend. They explained that they had received a letter according to which the developer should be removed from the office building. He was given time to pack his things.

Over the next three weeks, Diallo received new letters about his strange case. The system gave increasingly threatening orders, deciding his fate: "turn this off, turn that off, block his access, get him out of the room."

And then one morning Diallo got a call from his hiring agent and said he could go back to work. The solution turned out to be quite banal. At first, Diallo worked for a technology company, which was later absorbed by a larger corporation. His three-year contract was supposed to be renewed, but the previous manager was fired immediately after the merger. The manager was supposed to finalize the remaining time at home, but obviously forgot.

And then the automatic system decided that Diallo no longer works for the company, and launched a chain of daily tasks to eliminate him. And this process could not be stopped. The problem was solved only by re-signing the contract and setting up the office systems anew.
