A distinctive feature of their appearance until recently was considered a tube in their noses and tattoos, applied along the face.
According to legend it was thus in ancient times the elders of the people decided to deal with constant burglaries enviable brides, men of neighboring tribes considered the written beauties.
Apatani men have forced their girlfriends to pierce their noses and insert into the holes of the plugs, called Yaping Hullo and apply on your face tattoo from top of forehead to bottom of chin.
It was believed that, seeing the mutilated, the person so beauties, the kidnappers abandon their evil designs.
This ancient tradition lasted until the 1970's, when gradually disappeared.
