Prison is not the most pleasant place for a person. Animals that are behind bars at the whim of the owner feel even worse. In the Cerezo 3 prison in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez, the police found a one-year-old cat of the sphinx breed. The animal spent most of its short life among criminals who treated it extremely cruelly.
The police found the cat during the next inspection of the prison. The animal was kept by members of the criminal group "Los Mexiles", which closely cooperates with the Sinaloa drug cartel. The sphinx got into prison as a kitten together with its owner Ernesto Arnoldo Pignon, who held a high position in the gang.
In January 2023, there was a riot in the prison, during which 25 prisoners managed to escape. Among them was Pinyon, who abandoned the pet to the mercy of fate. After that, the cat was fed by other prisoners for a while until the police found him. Apparently, the animal was having a hard time. On his side flaunts an artisanal prison tattoo "Made in Mexico."
But now all the troubles of the sphinx, which does not even have a name yet, are over. The city authorities are taking care of him, who are looking for new owners for him. So far, the "cat-sitter" has been assigned to a city shelter for homeless animals. The director of Ecology of the city of Ciudad Juarez, Cesar Rene Diaz, told the press that the animal is very friendly and completely healthy. An examination by a veterinarian did not reveal any infections and parasites in him.
The fate of the beast that has suffered troubles worries his rescuers. They don't want him to fall into the wrong hands and suffer bullying and deprivation again. To find a new home for the cat, the city authorities have created a special commission. It will consider the candidates of potential hosts at a meeting on March 1. On the same day, the animal will be handed over to a new owner.
The story of the prison cat is sad, but there are worse situations. In the USA, the dog Pep received a life sentence for a crime that he did not commit.
