A successful find: another record-breaking diamond was mined in YakutiaBy Pictolic https://pictolic.com/en/article/a-successful-find-another-record-breaking-diamond-was-mined-in-yakutia
Despite the fact that Russia is rich in diamond deposits, large stones are not mined too often. Recently, luck smiled on the prospectors of the Alrosa company, who found a record-breaking diamond at the Udachninsky Mining and Processing Plant. There have not been such sensational finds in Yakutia for a long time.
If we compare the stone with other diamonds, which are usually mined in the area of the Udachnaya tube in the north of Yakutia, then it is simply huge. Its dimensions are 40 ×31 ×20 mm, and its weight is 191.46 carats. In addition to the size, the find also surprises with its purity — the diamond is transparent and has only a slight yellowish tinge.
Representatives of the diamond mining company Alrosa said that a diamond of comparable size and quality was last found 2.5 years ago. Evgenia Agureeva, who heads the Alrosa Unified Sales Organization, believes that a gemstone with such characteristics once again confirms that the Udachnaya kimberlite pipe has not yet exhausted its resources and is able to give the country a lot of valuable raw materials.
Udachninsky GOK, where a valuable find was made
The Udachnaya pipe has been mastered by miners since 1955 and is rightfully considered the most productive in Russia. In addition, the deposit is among the largest in the world. Udachninsky GOK is the place where the largest and most valuable stones were found.
It was here in 1982 that the unique diamonds "60 years of YASSR" weighing 173.7 carats and "Yakutsk-350" weighing 126.3 carats were mined. The absolute record holder of the deposit is the Alexander Pushkin diamond found in 2013 weighing 320.65 carats.
