The saint, after whom the Franciscan monastic order was named, is known as the patron saint of animals. Therefore, it is quite logical that the monks extended a helping hand to the dog who lived on the street.
Now the happy four-legged pet is enjoying life to the fullest.
"His whole life is games and running," Franciscan monk Jorge Fernandez told The Dodo.
"All the brothers here love him very much. He is God's creation."
Brother Bigoton even wears a cassock sometimes. Perhaps the outfit also affects him somehow, and the dog is taken seriously for monastic duties.
"Here is Brother Carmelo preaching to the fishes," the monk Kasper Mariusz Kapron wrote in the caption to one of the photos. It was he who became the first to publish photos of the monastery pet on the Internet.
