We have already told about the treacherous robbery of a branch of Sparebank 1, located in the Norwegian city of Longyearbyen on the island of Svalbard. Then a Russian tourist armed with a rifle "took the cash register" in the amount of 70 thousand Norwegian kroner, which is about 550 thousand Russian rubles. Shortly after committing the crime, the robber surrendered to law enforcement. On May 7, he was sentenced and we can finally find out the details of an unusual crime.

A harsh Norwegian court sentenced a 29-year-old Russian to 14 months in prison for armed robbery. He was also ordered to pay 20 thousand Norwegian kroner (about 150 thousand rubles) to each of the 3 employees of the bank, whom he threatened with weapons.

There are only 2,000 residents in Longyearbyen and no one has guessed to rob banks there yet

The villain will serve a solid term by European standards in one of the prisons on the Norwegian mainland. We all know how the descendants of the Vikings treat prisoners, so there is nothing strange in the fact that the criminal did not appeal and did not ask Russian diplomats to take part in his fate.

It turned out that the young man came to Svalbard not to become the only and legendary gangster in the history of the island, but to take his own life. He found out that in Longyearbyen it is easy to rent weapons by presenting only an identity card.

Thanks to the polar bears, weapons in Svalbard are not a whim, but a necessity.

But, having received the coveted carbine, the potential suicide changed his mind about shooting and found a more pleasant way out of his life situation. The Russian decided to commit a crime in order to get into a cozy European prison and have a good rest there.

On December 21, 2018, he visited the Sparebank 1 branch with a gun and withdrew all the cash that was there from its cash registers. Having committed the most audacious robbery in the history of the island, the tourist returned to the gun rental point, where he lawfully handed over the rifle and thanked the staff for good service. After that, the man sent his feet back to the bank to return the loot and apologize to his employees.

Crime scene

In the bank, the unusual robber was already waiting for the efficient Norwegian police, who were a little confused when they saw the wanted man at the crime scene. However, having overcome emotions, law enforcement officers arrested the criminal, who, of course, did not resist.

The Russian turned out to be just the perfect detainee — he did not brawl, did not write complaints and appeals, and did not even express a desire to communicate with the Russian consul. Apparently, the guy is satisfied with everything and he finally got what he lacked from life.
