Unfortunately, racism will not be completely eradicated soon and even the most advanced companies on the planet are not immune from this phenomenon. Owen Diaz, a black employee of one of the divisions of the electric car manufacturer Tesla, accused his company of racism and sued her for $ 137 million (almost 10 billion rubles).

As a result of the trial, the victim of racism will receive $ 130 million in fines, and another $ 6.9 million will be compensation for moral suffering. The federal jury investigating the case found that the environment in which Diaz had to work was racially hostile and oppressive to honor and dignity.

The plaintiff told the court that due to constant racist jokes and insults, he became nervous, lost his appetite and began to suffer from insomnia. He says that sometimes he became completely desperate, sat down on the stairs and cried with resentment. Now his torment has come to an end and Tesla will have to answer for its unreasonable employees.

David Oppenheimer, a law professor at the University of California Berkeley Law, said that the compensation and fine imposed on Tesla are by far the largest in the history of the fight against racism in the world. At the same time, the company that lost the court does not agree with his decision and its representatives claim that Owen Diaz is too exaggerating.

Employees of the department in which the plaintiff worked confirmed that they had heard jokes about the color of Owen's skin more than once, but they all sounded harmless, friendly and mostly came from African Americans like Diaz. This is not the first time Tesla has been involved in scandals related to racial intolerance. In August 2021, Melvin Berry, an employee of the company, was paid a million dollars in compensation for the fact that his superiors addressed him as "niger". Because of this attitude, Berry quit his job.
