The unknown world is getting smaller as air travel and mass media allow us to visit every corner of the planet. Antarctica, however, is one of the parts of our Earth that hardly anyone will be able to visit or see. For most of us, this is the only place that is a real mystery. Of course, we all know that it is full of ice and is a difficult place for people to live, but other than that, no one knows much about it. This sense of mystery has naturally led to many conspiracy theories over time.

1. The Nazis live there in secret hideouts.

The German Nazi Party, led by Adolf Hitler, is the source of many, many conspiracy theories. However, they are also associated with Antarctica. It is believed that the Nazis sent an extensive expedition to this continent in 1938 to see what was there. Hitler and many high-ranking Nazis were deeply involved in the occult and considered Antarctica to be a special place. The theory goes that this expedition uncovered several large underground caverns, which were then turned into cities to house high-ranking Nazis.

2. Pyramids were built by ancient societies.

One of the latest theories that have surfaced on the internet concerns three pyramidal structures found in Antarctica. In 2016, three pyramids were discovered, and when measured, they reached about 1219 meters each. This is almost 10 times higher than the great pyramids of Giza in Egypt. This naturally caused a stir, as no ancient civilization with the knowledge to build such great pyramids has ever been recorded as living in the area. Conspiracy theorists claim that the pyramids must have been built by an ancient society about which our current government is hiding details.

3. Did aliens build rectangular icebergs?

The next theory on the list when it comes to Antarctica revolves around perfectly shaped rectangular icebergs that people have noticed there. These icebergs are so huge that they can be seen from space, but their ideal shape is suspicious. The main problem is that ideal forms do not arise by themselves in nature. Their sheer size has also led conspiracy theorists to wonder if they were built by aliens or even by one of the largest governments in the world. At this point, no one can say for sure, and the debate will rage on.

4. Atlantis is under Antarctica.

One of the most famous mysteries in history has to do with the lost city of Atlantis. Many believe that Atlantis can be found under Antarctica. This is a theory from the 1950s that revolved around the theory that Antarctica was not covered in ice many years ago. Interestingly, it is also claimed that the inhabitants of Atlantis migrated to create the Inca and Maya civilization when it sank.

5. UFO crashed in Antarctica.

Many conspiracy theories on this continent involve aliens and UFOs. One of the most widely known was a theory put forward recently by a group of alien hunters. Looking at Google Earth, they noticed a suspicious trail going down from the top of the mountain. They claim that this is similar to the path of a ship that hit the top of a mountain and then crashed and landed on the ice of Antarctica. Since no human flying objects fly over this continent, they say the only rational explanation is that it was an alien craft that crashed.

6. Does Google have any secrets?

Google Earth and Google Maps are a great resources for many people. It has also been the source of some theories around Antarctica such as this one. In 2018, a prominent YouTuber claimed that when he turned on the weather feature in Google Earth, a red cross appeared on the screen when he looked at a certain place in Antarctica. His theory is that Google, as a company, has top-level secrets that we shouldn't know about, but one employee is trying to covertly reveal the information. What is found at the intersection is unknown, but many think it could be a secret base, hidden technology, or alien life.

7. Antarctica is not real.

There is a theory around this ice-laden continent that it does not exist at all. To understand this, you have to believe that the Earth is really flat and therefore the South Pole simply surrounds the Earth with the north at the center. Flat earthers say that Antarctica is a huge wall 60 meters high that surrounds the Earth to keep us from falling off the edge. Because much of Antarctica is a closed area to the public, it may have kept this secret from the public for years. Interestingly, the Flat Earthers say that Captain Cook is one of the few who has ever seen the real Antarctica on his travels.

8. Secret UFO bases are located here.

As noted above, aliens and UFOs are the basis of many of the conspiracy theories here. One of the most popular is that there are several secret UFO bases in Antarctica where alien technology has been discovered. The basis of this theory is two entrance craters found on the surface of Antarctica, which seem to go deep underground. Many conspiracy theorists believe these tunnels eventually lead to secret UFO bases where governments around the world develop and test alien technology.

9. The Nazi UFO also hid there.

We couldn't leave this list without introducing yet another Nazi conspiracy theory. It also includes secret UFOs that conspiracy theorists believe they have hidden there. This theory explains that the Nazis operated from this secret base throughout World War II and the Allies undertook many failed missions to destroy it. This never happened during the war but was achieved years later in 1958 when the Allies dropped an atomic bomb on her. This theory is generally dismissed by scientists and historians but remains popular with many conspiracy theories.
