Who's Who: Legendary Fashion Photographers of the 20th Century

Today, August 19th is World Photography Day. On this occasion, we decided to tell you about legendary fashion photographers. They shot the best covers of world publications, famous models dreamed of posing for them, and their work went down in history forever. Here are eight names to remember.

1.  Peter Lindberg

German photographer whose name is associated with 90s fashion, Vogue, and the Pirelli calendar. His career in the fashion industry began in 1988 when he shot the cover of American Vogue (by the way, this is the first issue of the magazine under the direction of Anna Wintour).

2. Another merit of Peter Lindbergh is a radical change in the aesthetics of the Pirelli calendar (before him, the calendar was associated with pictures of half-naked models). The photographer offered to shoot not only fashion models but also Hollywood actresses. By the way, Lindbergh is the only one who shot Pirelli as many as three times.

8. Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is the only female photographer on this list. She has photographed for Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Time, Interview, The New York Times, and other top magazines. Starting in the 1970s, she photographed the main stars of the music scene: Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, and Bob Marley, and toured with The Rolling Stones. For this, she has been nicknamed the photographer of rock and roll.

Avedon re-discovered black-and-white photographs, through which he very clearly conveyed emotions, character, and inner beauty. For portraiture, he most often used a white background to draw attention to the faces of the models. For a long time, he collaborated with Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
