Their original function is to drain water from the roofs so that rainwater does not run down the stone walls and corrode the mortar. More often than not, architects have used multiple gargoyles on the same building to separate water flows from the roof and minimize the potential threat of collapse after thunderstorms. Usually gargoyles are oblong fantastic animals, because. the length of the gargoyle determines how far the water will flow off the walls of the building. Grotest is a sculpture that serves only as a decorative ornament. It used to be that gargoyles and grotesques scare away evil spirits and guard the building.
