Like many other artists, Klimt lived in poverty. He studied architectural drawing at the Vienna University of Applied Arts until 1883. In 1897 Klimt became one of the founders and chairman of the Vienna Secession, as well as the head of the publication of this artistic association, Ver Sacrum ("Sacred Spring"). The artist remained in the Vienna Secession until 1908. The aim of the group was to organize exhibitions of unusual young artists, bring the works of the best foreign masters to Vienna and publish its own magazine to show the audience the works of the members of the association.
It is known that Klimt led a very active sexual life, although he kept his relationship secret to avoid scandals. It is enough to look at these drawings to understand that the artist was a much more sophisticated man than many of his contemporaries.
