The nightly delirium of one of the patients in a mental hospital? No, this is the animal world as artist Enrique Gomez De Molina sees it.
The style of Enrique Gomez de Molina can be described as horror.
He dismembers animal corpses and creates incredible hybrids from them, like this crab-squirrel.
Enrique's father, a famous taxidermist, has always been a source of inspiration.
What should we call his work? Works of art or terrible monsters?
Enrique himself says that his sculptures evoke both sadness and joy in him. Joy comes from the feeling of the fantastic nature of his works, and sadness comes from the thought that we ourselves are destroying everything beautiful in this world.
In the world of Enrique Gomez de Molina, everything seems unnatural, although all the elements are familiar, but they are combined in such an unusual way that it seems almost impossible.
Gomez learned taxidermy from his father. Although taxidermy is not exactly the right word to describe his work.
Working with insects, birds, animals and any found objects, he creates surreal works of art, serving as a creator god in a world of monotonous creatures.
Gomez brings us face to face with the impossibility of these “animals,” as if to make us question how they came to be on this earth in the first place.
You shouldn’t be too surprised - given global climate change, species extinction and environmental pollution, such mutations (maybe, of course, not in such a deep form) may well occur.
The artist seems to be trying to tell us that such profound changes can turn even the most beautiful things into something that will then be difficult to correct.
